Triple Drain Pinball Podcast Episode 32: Who Is Driving This Bus?! Hosts: Joel Engelberth, Tom Graf & Travis Murie (Editor's note: We recorded this Friday morning before the different game teasers...

Highlights

  • Bond 60th was specifically requested by the licensor as an older-style single-level pin; Stern had to persuade them to allow the Cornerstone game
  • The disc mechanism on Bond 60th is completely re-engineered compared to Avengers, with counterbalanced bearing design that settles consistently in same position
  • Bond Cornerstone received mode-stacking update where multiball prioritizes video assets and shows secondary modes as logo/tally bar to comply with strict Bond licensor requirements about not intermixing movie content
  • Stern is shipping Bond 60th with version 1.03 code and plans additional voice callouts post-release
  • Keith Elwin displayed unusual excitement during Bond 60th reveal when George Gomez hit consecutive inline drop targets with momentum transfer
  • Neil McCrae purchased all Bond 60th units in Europe for distribution/resale
  • Foo Fighters pinball officially announced by Stern immediately after Triple Drain finished recording on Friday
  • American Pinball released teaser for Galactic Tank Force with minimal title identification, official reveal scheduled for Tuesday

Notable quotes

Somebody's got to drive the bus. And so I'm driving and I get two people in the back complaining the whole time.
Joel
If you only knew the amount of time and hours we invested in that mac to make it spin the way it does and then settle itself back the way it does. It is a completely new mac.
George Gomez (relayed)
This pin was made specifically for the licensor because apparently the licensor, this is what the licensor requested first. They wanted an older pin.
Joel
Of course it is [a cash grab]. Like what, what manufacturer out there is trying to not turn a profit and pay their employees?
Joel
I have a realistic expectation of what this pin is... bond collectors are a different breed. There is a ton of money in the bond collecting world.
Joel
I would want to get the pin personally if it was the right theme. If this was a theme that I really enjoyed, I probably wouldn't have a problem taking my funds, my budget for pinball, and making room for it.
Travis
We all are very much experiencing a first world problem right now... there's people that will readily buy a $10,000, $12,000 LE. There's people that will buy a $7,000 pro. And then all of a sudden, this pen's too much.
Joel
I just really wish that manufacturers would put out old school type filling pens, you know, to where it's just single level, use the modern flippers, give it a different fill.
Travis
His arms do not go above his shoulders. That's impossible. So yeah, you're right. He was pumped.
Joel
I'm not a Bond fan. I've only seen one. My wife wants to watch the Daniel Craig Bond. So I'm like, we'll get around to it eventually.
Travis
