Summary
Digital Pinball Fans forum shutting down; BlahCade hosts eulogize its decade-long impact on community.
Chris Friebus and Jared Morgan discuss the impending shutdown of Digital Pinball Fans forum (founded by Gord Lacey in 2012) as user engagement has migrated to Discord, Twitter, and Reddit. They reminisce about the forum's pivotal role in building the digital pinball community, their own discovery of it, the creation of BlahCade Podcast podcast through IRC chat channels, early interactions with Farsight Studios, and how the forum shaped digital pinball culture over a decade. The episode also covers Jared's upcoming BPAC event in Brisbane with 70-80 pinball machines and his System 80 restorations (Pink Panther, Force 2).
It's the end of an era! The digitalpinballfans.com forum is closing at the end of July 2022. We go down memory lane and talk about how the site hugely impacted digital pinball's growth and our reason for existing as a podcast. Oh, and Bride of Pinbot got announced, so we talk a little about what we've seen.
